At Masdeu we are dedicated to the production and commercialisation of a wide and creative variety of food bases designed to be filled, such as tartlets, vol-au-vents, wafers, mini waffle cones and sponge cake sheets.

Our product portfolio is aimed at serving sector professionals, and on an international scale, an area of specialisation in which we have years of experience.

In prespective

Our origins are thoroughly artisanal: a story that goes back to 1945 at a family bakery in the town of Puigdàlber, about 40 km from Barcelona. Since then, the company has continuously evolved, transforming from artisanal production into a benchmark in the manufacture of food bases, providing tailored solutions for professionals and hospitality clients.

In 2016, as part of its international expansion strategy, Masdeu Group acquired the French company Mariebel. This milestone marked a turning point by incorporating a second production plant and strengthening expertise in puff pastry, thus gaining capacity and know-how in one of the most distinctive products within the food base category.

In 2020, the family business Especialitats Vilà, based in Barcelona (Spain) with more than three decades of experience in sponge sheet production, was integrated into the Masdeu Group. This step expanded the Group’s know-how and consolidated its leadership in the national industrial sector.

More recently, the acquisition of Bollería BJV, located in Alicante and recognized as Spain’s leader in sponge sheet production for the industrial market, further reinforced Masdeu Group’s national positioning and opened new opportunities for international growth.

Today, thanks to these strategic operations, Masdeu Group stands as a key player in the sector, combining tradition, innovation, and a forward-looking vision to continue driving its expansion.

The incorporation of the French brand Mariebel opens the opportunity to reach end consumers through the retail channel. This is how Masdeu Group was created, which, with two brands operating internationally, serves both professionals through the Masdeu catalog and households with the product range under the Mariebel brand (more information at www.mariebel.com).

With the integration of the family-owned company Especialitats Vilà and the recent acquisition by Masdeu Group of the national leader Bollería BJV (more information at www.bolleriabjv.com), we have expanded our range of sponge sheets and strengthened our position in the Spanish industrial and retail market by producing all types of sponge sheets — for soaking and rolling — and sponge cakes in different flavors and sizes, under the BJV brand in Spain and Italy. In this way, Masdeu aims to continue leading the ready-to-fill market both nationally and internationally.

Currently, our facilities in Puigdàlber, San Vicente del Raspeig, and Les-Lucs-sur-Boulogne cover approximately 15,000 m², host a team of around 170 people, and achieve a maximum daily production capacity of about 2 million units. Considering Spain and France as our domestic markets, the Group now exports to 50 countries worldwide.

A dedication to service

For the food service sector professionals that we serve, the use of our bases for fillings minimises the necessary handling times and guarantees quality, hygiene, and the control of production costs.

Working for a long time in close collaboration with our customers has allowed us to understand their concerns when it comes to the preparation of pastry and confectionery products, by, for example, supplying a catering service in the shortest possible time, offering quality and healthy menus on a daily basis, or surprising consumers when presenting appetisers.
